Gaming has become really important to people over the last few years. The possibility to escape from normal life for a few hours day can be vital for your mental health. So having the perfect game is so important to being able to enjoy yourself as much as possible. So here are our top 5.
Uncharted 4- A Thief’s End
The Uncharted series has been with us for over 15 years now, with it becoming a favourite to gamers during its first 3 games. However, Uncharted 4 was to be the first one on the next gen consoles (PS4) and boy did it not disappoint. Nathan Drake is back gallivanting across the world in search for one of the great pirate treasures. Does Drake throw away his normal life in search of his childhood dreams, or does he realise this is one trip too far? Uncharted 4 has recently been remastered for PS5 in the ‘Legacy of Thieves’ collection, but apologies to any Xbox owners, as the game is a PlayStation exclusive.
The Last of Us
If ever you’re in doubt, go to Naughty Dog; they are wizards. In my humble opinion this is the greatest game of all time. In a post-apocalyptic world, travel across the country with Joel and Ellie, encountering army’s, zombies and friends along the way, in search of the only thing that can save the world. The Last of Us has recently been remastered for PS5, but again, apologies to any Xbox owners, as the game is a PlayStation exclusive, as is the brilliant sequel ‘The Last of Us Part 2’.
Red Dead Redemption 2
A prequel to the 2010 game 'Red Dead Redemption', this open world game is set in 1899 and follows the exploits of outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. You must help Arthur deal with the decline of the Wild West whilst attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries. Thankfully for Xbox users, you can get this game on all platforms.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Find your inner feminist and take on fierce enemies with everyone’s favourite main character Lara Croft. Follow Lara as she ventures through the tropical regions of the Americas to the legendary city Paititi, battling the paramilitary organisation Trinity and racing to stop a Mayan apocalypse she has unleashed. Following on from Rise of the Tomb Raider, this critically acclaimed game is available on all platforms.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
If you’re after an infinite amount of escapism, then get Skyrim. Its main story focuses on the character, the Dragonborn, on their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. Over the course of the game, you’ll complete quests and develop your character by improving skills. The game continues the open-world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely. Available on all platforms, Skyrim is considered one the best open-world games of all time.
